What it means
Flying Star feng shui places nine numbered stars in a three-by-three grid of compass sectors. Each star carries a traditional meaning — Five Yellow is misfortune, Two Black is illness, Eight White is wealth — and each year the whole set moves one step along the Lo Shu path, so the annual chart is different every year while the underlying grid stays fixed.
Why it matters
The annual chart is the most practical part of popular feng shui because it changes on a schedule anyone can check. It is also the part most often published without its method: the centre number for a year follows a simple arithmetic rule, and the rest of the grid follows a fixed path, so a chart that cannot be reproduced from the rule is worth treating with suspicion.
