Na Yin 纳音
Nà Yīn · A second element assigned to each stem-branch pair, in poetic form.
What it means
Na Yin, "attracted sound", assigns a further element to each of the sixty stem-branch combinations, always in a descriptive phrase rather than a bare element name: Water of the Heavenly River, Earth of the Great Post Road, Gold in the Sand. The assignment follows pairs, so two consecutive combinations always share the same Na Yin.
Why it matters
Na Yin is the element most English-language sites mean when they call 2027 something other than a Fire year. It comes from an older layer of the tradition than Day Master analysis and is now used mainly for year descriptions, temple ritual and folk compatibility; most working BaZi readers use it lightly or not at all. Knowing it exists explains a lot of apparent contradictions between sources.

Where this site uses it
The year pages on this site state the Na Yin alongside the stem element, so the two are visibly different things rather than a confusion. The values are read from the sexagenary tables in tyme4ts rather than typed in, and the table below shows twelve consecutive years so the pairing is visible: each Na Yin covers two years before the next one begins.
