What it means
The Twelve Day Officers, Jian Chu, are a repeating cycle attached to each day: Establish, Remove, Full, Balance, Stable, Initiate, Destruction, Danger, Success, Receive, Open, Close. The officer of a day is found from the distance between the day branch and the month branch, which means the cycle runs cleanly for twelve days and then repeats one step late when the solar month changes.
Why it matters
The officer is the first filter in most date selection. Stable, Success and Open are the classic auspicious trio for weddings, moves and openings, while Destruction and Danger days are avoided for anything one wants to last. Because the cycle is arithmetic, it can be verified — this site cross-checks its own calculation against tyme4ts and refuses to render a page if the two disagree.
