Sui Po 岁破

Sui Po is the position directly opposite the Tai Sui — six branches away, the clash position. It names two things: a compass sector, traditionally avoided for building, renovation and ground-breaking during that year, and a set of days, the days whose branch clashes with the year branch, traditionally avoided for weddings, moves and openings.

Sui Po days are the single most common reason a date that looks good in the almanac is rejected. A day can carry a favourable Day Officer and a clean list of recommended activities and still be struck out because it clashes with the year. Any date-selection method that ignores the year branch will therefore produce dates a traditional practitioner would refuse.

The auspicious date pages on this site exclude Sui Po days before anything else, which is a large part of why their strict counts are so much smaller than the loose counts most calendar sites publish.
